AUSTRALIAN PLAYS TRANSFORM

Australian Plays Transform (APT) is Australia’s national play development, publication and licensing organisation. It hosts the world’s largest online showcase and searchable database of the best Australian playwriting.

APT seeks new voices for new times, develops plays that change the national story, links them to production, publishes them, promotes them, and licenses them for future productions here and around the world.

It is an engine of purposeful cultural change and inspiration, centring the voice of the playwright.

About APT

APT is Australia’s national play development and publication organisation. It hosts the world’s largest online showcase and searchable database of the best Australian playwriting. APT develops, promotes, and publishes plays. We look for new voices for new times and connect them with production opportunities and promote them here and around the world.

Reading/Assessing with APT

APT runs various programs throughout the year, and the participants in these programs are chosen by different selection panels. Each panel we assemble represents the professional and lived experience of our industry and contemporary Australia.

All Readers/Assessors are paid for their time and expertise. The amount of time required can differ depending on the project or program - Readers/Assessors are contacted before the start of the project and provided with additional information about payment and time commitment.

The process involves reading submissions/scripts, making notes via an assessment form (we use this submissions platform, Submittable, for all program applications) and meeting (often over Zoom) with the other panel members and APT staff to make decisions.

Please note: This form registers your interest in becoming part of APT's database of Readers/Assessors; submitting an expression of interest does not guarantee that you will be engaged as a Reader/Assessor.

Completing this Form

The form takes an estimated 15-30 minutes to complete. Expressions of Interest are being accepted in text, audio, and video formats.

If you have questions about this form or require assistance completing it, please contact hello@apt.org.au and we will get back to you within two or three business days.

In its 12th year, The Erin Thomas Playwrights Fund continues to honour the enduring legacy of playwright Erin Thomas by empowering emerging playwrights from regional areas.

With the support of the Thomas family, the 2025 Fund will support regional playwrights:

  • pursue a deep creative connection over a period of time with a mentor dramaturg as the playwright develops a new play
  • via a travel bursary to connect with the broader Australian theatre industry

“This was such a wonderful opportunity. Feeling supported as a writer makes such a difference and especially when you are building a career in a remote or regional area - it makes a huge difference to feel connected to the wider industry.” Alex Edmondson, Erin Thomas Fund 2024 Participant
